Module Description

This module is designed for learners who would like and need to acquire an understanding of research approaches and skills and gain an ability to deploy research methods in their studies or in their professional life.

This module is a comprehensive introduction to research methods and will cover the following broad topics: the fundamentals of doing research, research design, data collection, data analysis, and research methodology, including Research Problem, Research Objectives, Research Type, Research Hypothesis, Research Approach and Research Strategy. In discussing each topic, the ethical implications of research will be covered.

In this module, students will also be exposed to the importance of original and critical thinking and how to undertake this essential skill through practical tasks

How you’ll be assessed

The course comprises:

  •  Lectures per module depending on the number of ECTS (once or twice a week);
  • 3-hour lectures;
  • Guided learning, presentations, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos;
  • Self-study hours comprising research, reading and assignment work.

 

Assessment

The programme includes different forms of assessment which allow for and promote students’ critical engagement. The formative and summative assessment tasks may include an in-class assignment and/or a home-based written assignment using diverse assessment tools which may take the form of online and in-class discussions, examinations, case studies, reports, proposals, essays, and presentations, etc., as applicable to the diverse modules.
