Module Description

This training program covers effective human resource management practices.

Participants will learn how to transform HR into a fully-fledged business partner that directly contributes to achieving organizational goals. Key topics include strategic HR planning, performance management, talent development, and aligning HR initiatives with business objectives.

By the end of the program, participants will be equipped with the skills to enhance HR’s role in driving organizational success.

Entry Requirements

Candidates who apply for this course must possess: 

  • a qualification at MQF Level 4 (one ‘A’ Level or equivalent in any subject)  

AND 

  •  a pass in English* and Mathematics at MQF Level 3 (‘O’ Level or equivalent).  

 

Preference is given to applicants having a year of work experience related to the field of study. 

* Students whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level of English proficiency.  

Target Audience

This course is targeted at professionals with HR experience, such as:  

  • HR coordinator 
  • HR manager 
  • training manager 
  • payslip coordinator  
  • HR supervisor  

 

The target group can be extended to those who have the experience but lack a formal qualification and wish to have a more thorough background in the subject in order to progress further in their careers. 

Career Paths

  • The programme aims to prepare you for positions in middle-management and other senior roles such as that of an HR manager, head of HR and HR director of any organisation, both in the private and public sector. 

How you’ll be assessed

The course comprises:

  • Evening classes for part-time courses.
  • Classes held throughout the day for full-time courses.
  • Guided learning, presentations, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos.
  • Self-study hours comprising research, reading and assignment work.

Assessment

Assessment is carried out via two mandatory components:

  • Formative Assessment
  • Summative Assessment

The programme includes different forms of assessment which allow for and promote students’ critical engagement. The formative and summative assessment tasks may include an in-class assignment and/or a home-based written assignment using diverse assessment tools which may take the form of online and in-class discussions, examinations, case studies, reports, proposals, essays, and presentations, etc., as applicable to the diverse modules.

Competences:

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Monitor the implementation of HR strategy and evaluate its effectiveness.
  • Monitor the implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Supervise HR processes such as recruitment, training and development, rewards and employee relationships.
  • Be responsible for achieving support from employees by; delivering the message concisely in a clear manner, show interest in the employees’ opinion, involve employees in the HR developments and praise employees’ work.
  • Be responsible for achieving support from management by; communicating how the organisation and management shall benefit from the proposed plan, depict the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed plan and provide concise and relevant information.
  • Manage conflict in HR management.
  • Manage ethical issues in the fields of; development of the workplace, recruitment and selection, the learning organisation, performance management and reward management.
  • Be responsible for HRM professionals in maintaining ethical standards.

Knowledge:

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have been exposed to the following:

  • The responsibilities and activities of the HR Manager.
  • HR Management tasks.
  • Essential skills of HRM professionals.
  • The various role of the HR Manager i.e. the business partner role, the strategist role, the interventionist role, the innovation role, the internal consultancy role, the monitoring role, the reactive/ proactive role.
  • The different HR Manager models.
  • Achieving support from employees.
  • Achieving support from management.
  • Conflict in HR management.
  • Ethical issues concerning HRM.
  • The role of HRM professionals in maintaining ethical standards.

Skills:

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  • Define the responsibilities of an HR manager.
  • Describe the HR manager’s tasks and responsibilities.
  • Identify and list the essential skills of an HR manager.
  • Identify the HR manager’s roles and models.
  • Demonstrate how to gain support from employees and management.
  • Recall the ethical issues concerning HRM.

  • Evaluate and provide direction on HR strategies.
  • Analyse the implementation of policies and procedures.

  • Compare and examine different HR Manager roles and models.
