Course Description

This award aims at equipping the target audience with the competences, knowledge, and skills to fulfil the role of property consultants, property agents, property brokers, and branch managers.

The modules which compose this award focus on four main areas of real estate: finance, communication, procedures and processes, and legislation.

The first module focuses on the major areas of finance, the managerial finance function, and role of financial management.

Learners will then go on to navigate the importance of communication both in professional and personal spaces.

The third module delves into the legal aspect of real estate focusing on relevant documentation and legislation.

The fourth and last module introduces students to the renting, selling, and leasing requirements and regulations of the local market.

Entry Requirements

Candidates who apply for this course must:

  • Level 3 qualification such as school leaving certificate (recommended Level 3, minimum Level 2).
  • A pass in English Language at MQF Level 3 (‘O’ Level or equivalent).
  • Preferably 1 year experience in relevant field.
  • In the case of students who do not possess all the formal required academic qualifications, then the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process could be applied such that if evidence of equivalent learning is found then the applicant could still be accepted on the course. Such RPL process will subject applicants to an interview held with a board of experts within the field, chosen specifically by IDEA College, so as to verify their experiences and prior learning.

Target Audience

This course targets primarily property consultants, sellers, administration, and all individuals in general working in the real estate industry.

The target group can be extended to groups such as: construction companies, contractors, and developers.

The target group focuses primarily on people already employed who wish to have a more thorough background in the subject in order to progress further in their career.

In essence, this award targets:

  • Any person wanting to improve his/her employability opportunities.
  • A person wanting to progress onto higher qualifications in the areas of management within the property industry.

Career Paths

This course prepares students for the relevant licence to operate in the capacity of real estate agents, property brokers and property consultants, as per the ‘Real Estate Agents, Property Brokers and Property Consultants Act’, enacted in 2020.

Furthermore, this programme aims to increase the employability of individuals interested in working in the real estate and construction industry.

 

Modules

You are required to complete all 4 compulsory modules (12 ECTS) to fulfil the requirements of this award.

How you’ll be assessed

The mode of assessment varies and may include in-class tasks and home-based written assignments using diverse assessment tools which may include care studies, reports, proposals, essays, presentations, multiple-choice questions assessment, as applicable to the diverse modules.

Assessment

  • Formative assessment will take place during the session in the form of discussions, feedback, etc., but it will not be graded and, therefore, will have no weighting.

Upon successfully completing the course, students will be eligible to get 70% of their fees back through the ‘Get Qualified’ Scheme. **

  • Define the following terms: purchase/letting/lease contract.
  • Become knowledgeable with regards to valuation techniques/processes.
  • Describe the land registration act.
  • Outline relevant ERA and PA legislations.
  • Explain common sales techniques.
  • Familiarise oneself with contract laws.
  • Familiarise oneself with anti-laundering legislation.
  • Discuss stamp duty and capital transfer tax/final withholding tax (for example: rentals).
  • Acquire knowledge relating to civil law as applied to contract/property legal matters (sales, use, commodatum, precarium, etc.).
  • Become aware of the procedures related to civil law (including court procedures).
  • Understand marketing strategies.
  • Understand the relevant tools and be motivated to continue learning, developing, and reflecting throughout one’s career.

Skills

The learner will be able to:

  • Acquire proficient negotiation skills.
  • Apply decision-making techniques in various scenarios.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of the process of VAT calculation.
  • Keep records of all stakeholders.
  • Able to record property details on relevant databases.
  • Apply understanding of promise and contracts of sale.
  • Apply understanding of Anti-Money Laundering (AML)legislation and civil law as applied to property legal matters.
  • Communicate with a large variety of people at different levels within own organisation as well as external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and communicate information on complex contemporary issues in management, strategy and leadership to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Enhance their career by developing knowledge and understanding to systematically and creatively inform their management practices.
  • Apply relevant marketing models, theories, and concepts.
