Module Description

The module begins by exploring the developmental stages of childhood, from birth through adolescence. Students will learn about the physical, cognitive, and emotional milestones that children typically reach at different ages, as well as the common health issues that arise during each stage of development.

Students will also study common paediatric illnesses and conditions. They will learn how to assess and manage these conditions, developing practical skills in areas such as administering medication, monitoring vital signs, and providing first aid. The module also covers preventive care, including immunisation, nutrition, and health education for parents and caregivers.

Emotional and psychological support is a critical component of paediatric care. Students will learn techniques for communicating with children in a way that is age-appropriate and supportive, helping to alleviate fear and anxiety during medical procedures. They will also explore how to involve parents and families in the care process, recognising the important role that family dynamics play in a child’s health and well-being.

By the end of the module, students will have developed the skills and knowledge needed to provide high-quality paediatric care, supporting the health and development of children across a range of care settings.
