FAQs

Credits and Levels

MQF level

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) helps students have their academic  qualifications recognised abroad. This allows for credits taken at one higher
education institution to be counted towards a qualification studied for at another.

An accredited course is one which has been formally approved by the authority regulating standards set by the same authority (in Malta’s case, the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority). All courses at IDEA College listed under the category ‘MQF Levels’ are fully accredited, including the separate modules contained within.

About IDEA College

The College is fully accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) to offer courses from MQF level 4 up to MQF level 8.

  • The student is always at the centre of our focus and we pride ourselves in providing innovative services with the utmost care and guidance for all our participants. In fact, IDEA College is the only private higher education institution in Malta that has its own Ethics Board.

  • We adopt the andragogy methodology and all our lecturers not only posses all the academic qualifications but have first-hand industry-grounded experience in their own respective fields.

  • The number of participants in class is kept to a minimum to ensure more individual attention from our lecturers and to create an environment where discussions can take place amongst like-minded people on the topic at hand.

  • Nearly all our courses are graded through assignments, discussion groups and dissertations (where applicable). The normal mode of assessment is through assignments (and not examinations) so as to encourage you to make use of all the material given throughout the modules in a creative and carefully thought-out manner.

  • The courses offered at the College offer the utmost flexibility to allow you to study with minimal disruption to continue with your work commitments and personal engagements, whilst also pursuing their dream in furthering your education and your career. In fact, lessons are held either once or twice a week, depending on the course chosen.

  • Flexible payment plans are also available at no interest rates.

The Application Process

The easiest way to do this is for you to get in touch with us so that we can guide you better, given that different courses have different entry requirements. We will need to know the highest level of education you have and your work experience. You will then be asked to kindly complete a registration form to send back to us.

You can contact us as follows:

  • Through our live chat or contact from on our website: ideaeducation.com.mt
  • Through Facebook messenger: @idea.academy.malta
  • By email on: info@ideaeducation.com.mt
  • By calling on: +356 21456310

You would need the following:

  • a copy of your ID card (front and back);
  • an updated copy of your CV;
  • a copy of the certificate of the highest level of education you obtained;
  • a copy of your MQRIC certificate (applicable only if you obtained your qualification outside of Malta).

If you are aged 23 or over, the Maturity Clause comes into effect. If you do not possess the requested academic background to enrol in a particular course, this clause would kick in, whereby you will be considered by our Admissions Board based on your experience and knowledge.

Payments

IDEA College offers very flexible payment plans where you can pay in installments over a period of time. We are in fact one of the only education institutions in Malta to offer monthly payment plans. You can pay as follows:

  • Pay upon completion of every third module
  • Pay monthly
  • Design your own payment plan

No – all our plans are completely interest free!

The letter of acceptance you will receive once you enrol also contains a detailed breakdown of when payments are to be made, based on the payment plan chosen. The first payment is to be made upon registration.

Funding Schemes

There are a number of schemes one can apply for, depending on the course chosen. The most popular is the Get Qualified scheme. All our courses are recognised under this scheme.

  • Get Qualified – applicable for all individuals residing and paying taxes in Malta, wishing to apply for a course which leads to a certification, diploma, degree or post-graduate degree courses. Upon successful completion, you will get 70% of your course fees back.

  • Training Pays Scheme – aims to assist individuals to develop and/or improve their skills by participating in further off-the-job education and training. Students may apply for this scheme and get 75% of the course fees back for courses that:

Lead up to MQF 4. Capping of the refund is set at €1,000.

Lead up to MQF 5 or Awards at MQF 6 and MQF 7. Capping of the refund is set at €3,000.

The process is quite simple. All you have to do is follow the steps below:

  1. Check if the course you are interested in is in the list of approved courses which can be viewed here. All courses at IDEA College are eligible under this scheme.
  2. If the course is on the approved list, students may proceed to register on the portal by clicking here or through an institute, where applicable.
  3. Once registered, students will receive a username and password enabling them to access the online system, submit and manage their application. Following registration, students are reminded that they are still required to submit their application, in line with the Incentive Guidelines.

The letter of acceptance you will receive once you enrol also contains a detailed breakdown of when payments are to be made, based on the payment plan chosen. The first payment is to be made upon registration.

Attendance

The sharing of experiences and knowledge is an integral part of learning. Lectures missed are opportunities missed. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that all lectures be attended to maintain continuity between one lecture and the other and actively participate in the community of learning established with peers and staff. However, according to IDEA College Regulations, to obtain the certificate at the end of the course, one must attend a minimum of 80% of all lectures.

In this case, students are kindly requested to advise us before the lesson occurs. Nonetheless, they can recover the class by accessing the recording if this is available. In other instances, students can access the notes on our platform for ease of continuation.

Whilst we always try our best to record the classes, we are not in a position to guarantee that all classes will be recorded.

Each course contains what we call exit points. The exit point is usually after a specific number of modules have been completed, depending on the course chosen. Stopping at these exit points would allow students to obtain a certification, even though they would not have completed the entire course. Students are free to pick up the course again should they so wish. Should a student decide to pause at any exit point, we cannot guarantee that the course will run again or that the next intake will be in the same year. Having said this, we want to point out that all courses are subject to availability.

Lectures

Our courses are blended with some face-to-face classes and some online work. Classes are usually recorded, so in case of need, students may be able to catch up with missed lectures.

Mainly at our main campus, located at 1, Triq Nikol Muscat, Mosta MST 1870.

We also have satellite campuses as per the MFHEA Licence Agreement.

All programmes are delivered in English.

At IDEA College we use a state-of-the-art course management portal called Canvas which also supports online learning. You will be able to access lecture notes, upload assessments and communicate with lecturers and other students.

Yes – through our extensive online library portal ProQuest, you will have access to peer-reviewed journals and other study resources such as online textbooks and academic papers that are necessary for your studies and research.

Of course, doing well in a high-quality program of studies will involve hard work and determination. Classes reflect the level of the course studied. However, we take pride in a very student-centric support structure. Students in our courses can speak to staff and seek assistance when necessary.

Assessment

When you sign up for one of our courses, you will be provided with a username and password to access our online portal Canvas. All your assignments and other work may be submitted here for the lecturers to correct.

Our assessment approach reflects a student-centric vision. Therefore we encourage the use of various modes of assessments that best fit the students and the subject studied. These may include assignments, in-class or online discussions, presentations, and in-class assessments. Each module usually carries two assessments, with the first one being of a formative nature to support the student towards the final assessment.

Certifications

IDEA College is fully licensed by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), which is the national authority that accredits all further and higher education institutions in Malta. Malta is, in turn, signatory to the Bologna Process.

The Bologna Process is a process of cooperation in the field of higher education, bringing together 49 countries (including Malta) in what is known as the ‘European Higher Education Area’ (EHEA). All signatories must commit to ensure mutual recognition of study programmes through a common credit system (ECTS) and cooperate to guarantee quality assurance. This means that our courses are legally recognised internationally.
