Module Description

The aim of the Applied Learning Project is to assess students on their capability of applying the learnings obtained from the previous modules, combined with practice.

Participating in the project will enable the student to develop deeper knowledge, understanding, capabilities and attitudes in the context of the studies undertaken.

This project requires students to make use of their acquired skills to analyse an identified real-life problem within the credit management field.

This problem may be identified through literature or by the tutor assigned. The results of the project to peers and to the lecturer though an individual or groupwork presentation

 

 

Entry Requirements

Candidates who apply for this course will possess:

  • A qualification at MQF Level 4 (one ‘A’ Level or equivalent in any subject/ a related (professional) qualification)
  • a pass in English Language* and Mathematics at MQF Level 3 (‘O’ Level or equivalent).

In the case of students who do not possess all the formal required academic qualifications, then the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process could be applied such that if evidence of equivalent learning and/or related experience (e.g., assistant accountant, credit controller, etc.) is found then the applicant could still be accepted on the course.

Evidence may include:

  • A detailed CV outlining relevant work experience and responsibilities.
  • Employer reference letters outlining job role, duration, and key competencies.
  • Related documentation demonstrating relevant skills (e.g. work portfolio).
  • Such RPL process may subject applicants to an interview held with a board of experts within the field, chosen specifically by IDEA College, so as to verify their practical knowledge, experiences, and prior learning.

*Students whose first language is not English and do not possess an ‘O’ level pass in English Language will be required to demonstrate English language capability at IELTS level 6.0 or equivalent.

This programme equips the audience with the competences, knowledge, and skills listed in this application. The potential positions for which this programme aims to prepare could be and are not limited to:

  • Credit manager
  • Credit controller.
  • Credit analyst.
  • Collections specialist.
  • Financial assistant.

How you’ll be assessed

The course comprises:

  • Evening classes for part-time courses.
  • Classes held throughout the day for full-time courses.
  • Guided learning, presentations, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos.
  • Self-study hours comprising research, reading and assignment work.

Assessment

Assessment is carried out via two mandatory components:

  • Assessment 1
  • Assessment 2

The programme includes different forms of assessment which allow for and promote students’ critical engagement. The formative and summative assessment tasks may include an in-class assignment and/or a home-based written assignment using diverse assessment tools which may take the form of online and in-class discussions, examinations, case studies, reports, proposals, essays, and presentations, etc., as applicable to the diverse modules.

Learning Outcomes

Competences:

At the end of the module/unit, the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Make use of different methods and approaches to address this identified problem in this project.
  • Reflect on theories and/or theoretical frameworks in addressing a chosen real-life problem related to the credit management industry.
  • Apply a series of transversal skills to access relevant data, analyse information, and synthesise knowledge.
  • Communicate analysis and findings effectively and generate appropriate recommendations.

Knowledge:

At the end of the module/unit, the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Detect and address real-life problems related to credit management.
  • Define the scope of the project and choose the most adequate approach.
  • Identify main theories and/or theoretical frameworks pertinent to the area of study.
  • Address problems through the process of identification of key issues, synthesis of information, effective use of analytical tools, and the presentation and critical evaluation of possible solutions.

Skills:

The learner will be able to:

  • Critical investigation of an identified issue within the area of study of credit management.
  • Necessary research skills to produce a project that is linked to credit decisions.
  • Effective way of accessing data and information .
  • Analysis and synthesis of data to establish findings.
  • Documentation of results and findings in an appropriate manner.
  • Communication of findings effectively while making appropriate recommendations.
  • Presentation of findings in an individual/groupwork presentation.

At the end of the module/unit, the learner will be able to:

  • Apply and integrate research and analytical skills to complete a project.
  • Manage own time and learning to prepare, plan and complete a project.

  • Navigate through the online learning platform to find, download, and upload assignments, discussion boards, literature, tutorials, etc.
