Module Description

This unit helps learners build practical English skills for both everyday and workplace use. It strengthens their speaking, writing, listening, and reading abilities through interactive tasks rooted in real-life situations.

By engaging with content relevant to their personal interests and career goals, learners develop the confidence to communicate clearly and effectively, and recognise the essential role of English in today’s diverse and multicultural world.

The course encourages active participation, collaboration, and critical thinking, ensuring that language learning remains engaging and meaningful.

By the end of the unit, learners will be able to use English more naturally and independently across various personal and professional settings.

Entry Requirements

Candidates who apply for this course will possess:

  • A Level 1 qualification in English such as IDEA College’s Award in English Language Proficiency – Level 1 or equivalent.

How you’ll be assessed

The assessment for this award comprises of an oral in the form of a picture interpretation followed by some generic questions on the theme stemming out of the picture and a time constrained assessment including a listening comprehension, a reading comprehension, and a short guided writing task.

Furthermore, formative assessment will take place during the session in the form of discussions, feedback, etc., but it will not be graded and, therefore, will have no weighting.

Assessment

The assessment aims to provide the learner an opportunity to produce evidence of their competences aligned to the learning outcomes of this

module. Furthermore, the tasks may include different forms of assessment which allow and promote students’ knowledge in the area.

For successful completion of this award, the student is required to achieve an overall pass mark of 50%
