Module Description

This award is designed to help learners build a strong foundation in the Maltese language by focusing on the core skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It introduces key words, expressions, and sentence patterns needed to handle simple conversations and everyday interactions in both personal and work-related situations.

Learners will practise understanding short texts and producing basic written pieces, gradually expanding their vocabulary and improving their accuracy. The course also introduces essential grammar concepts to support clear and correct communication.

By completing this programme, learners will develop the confidence to use Maltese more naturally in both spoken and written form.

How you’ll be assessed

The main objective of the assessment for this award is to assess the four language skills – reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Therefore, the assessment tasks shall consist of an oral component, a listening comprehension, a reading comprehension, and a short, guided written task.

Assessment

Formative assessment will take place during the session in the form of discussions, feedback, etc.

All assessment tasks aim to provide the learner an opportunity to produce evidence of their competences aligned to the learning outcomes of this module.

Furthermore, the tasks may include different forms of assessment which allow and promote students’ knowledge in the area.

For successful completion of this study unit, the student is required to achieve an overall pass mark of 50%.
