Client/Server Computing Systems
Module Description
This module is concerned with systems that are composed of two logical parts: a server, which provides services, and a client, which requests such services. The two parts can run on separate machines on a network, allowing users to access resources from their personal computers.
Students will be exposed to the middleware which serves as the networking transfer between the components of a client/server system. Students will be introduced to both the two-tiered as well as the three-tiered system. This module will also cover the main protocols in widespread use which make use of client/server system such as HTTP, FTP and SMTP. At the end of the module the students will be able to implement low-level network interfacing applications that make use of the knowledge gathered through this module.
