Different construction projects have different technological, structural and engineering requirements. A simple house differs significantly from a high-rise building, or an infrastructural building or a highway. The same applies to the electrical and mechanical services requirements of different types of projects, as indeed to the architectural features.
Quantity surveyors, being an integral part of a construction organisation, whether on the owners’ organisation, or part of the design team or the contractors’ set-up, must be aware of the different requirements and appreciate the need for such requirements and how the different disciplines must come together to ensure that the project outcome will be achieved.
This module will introduce students to the construction process of low rise buildings, including foundations, structural elements, architectural features and requirements for safe and comfortable use of such buildings.
