Introduction to Financial Technologies
Module Description
This module will introduce you to the various financial technologies, such as smart contracts, blockchain, cryptocurrencies (such as Bitcoin and Ethereum), decentralised ledgers, alternative finance (such as crowdfunding, ICOs, P2P and Marketplace Lending), digitisation of financial services, data-driven finance, regulation technologies (RegTech), Robo-Advisory, FinTech evaluation 4.0, Bank 4.0, open banking, VR/AR payments, and financial analytics.
It explores the functions of digital finance and its critical role in shaping the financial services industry and, ultimately, the future. The module will target the theory and core elements by which financial technologies and innovative financial products function, and their interaction with different systems; namely banking, financial and legal.
The module will also focus on the impact of FinTech 4.0 and Bank 4.0 on world financial markets, as well as on organisations, economies and our day-to-day lives, and examine the future of these financial technologies.
Entry Requirements
Candidates who apply for this course must possess one of the following:
- a Level 6 degree in a related field;
OR
- a Level 5 diploma or higher diploma and 2 years’ work experience, preferably in the fintech
Preference is given to applicants having a Level 6 degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Banking, Business Management, or any other area related to Financial Management. People with degrees related to IT will also be accepted if accompanied by solid experience in the financial sector.

- IT professionals with experience in finance
The programme aims to prepare you for middle management and senior managerial posts at any financial technology entity.
How you’ll be assessed
The method of assessment is assignment-based.
The course comprises:
- 6 lectures per module;
- 3-hour lectures (evening);
- 12 hours of online content per module, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos.
