Module Description

The module focuses on defining vulnerability and identifying the different groups of individuals who may require safeguarding, including children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities or mental health issues. Students will explore the various forms of abuse and how to recognise the signs.

An important component of this module is the legal framework surrounding safeguarding. Students will be introduced to key legislation, guidelines, and protocols that govern safeguarding in care settings.

The module also addresses the ethical challenges that can arise when safeguarding concerns come into conflict with individual autonomy, as well as the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries.

By the end of the module, students will be able to critically assess safeguarding practices in care environments and contribute to the creation of safer, more supportive care settings for vulnerable individuals.

Entry Requirements

  • A qualification at MQF Level 4 (one ‘A’ Level or equivalent) in Care or a related field and English Language at MQF Level 3 (‘O’ Level or equivalent).
