Course Description

This programme provides students with knowledge and understanding of retail and store management and aims to help them build the skills required for professional practice in retailing as related to retail environment, strategy, negotiations, customer experience, and people management.

Entry Requirements

Candidates who apply for this course will possess:

  • A qualification at MQF Level 4 (one ‘A’ Level or equivalent in any subject) and a pass in English Language and Mathematics at MQF Level 3 (‘O’ Level or equivalent).

Modules

You are required to complete all 5 compulsory modules (30 ECTS), to fulfil the requirements of this Undergraduate Certificate

How you’ll be assessed

The method of assessment is assignment-based.

The course comprises of:

  • 6 lectures per module;
  • 3-hour lectures;
  • 12 hours of guided learning, presentations, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos;
  • Self-study hours comprising research, reading and assignment work.

 

Assessment

Overall assessment weighting for each theory-based module consists of: Assessment of each module consists of two assignments, each carrying a weighting as below:

a) Assignment One carries 20% of total module mark achieved. b) Assignment Two carries 80% of total module mark achieved. For successful completion of a study module the student is required to achieve a minimum of 50% pass mark in both assignments.

The overall grade achieved for each module is calculated as the sum of:

  • 20% of the mark achieved for Assignment One; and
  • 80% of the mark achieved for Assignment Two

  • Define the characteristics of retailing and the key factors influencing retail environment.
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of retail strategy and its design, implementation, and assessment based on consumer needs and market changes; · Describe the actions taken to acquire and retain customers and what tools to use to create excellent customer experience.
  • Define inventory management practices used in retail settings.
  • Identify management and leadership functions, styles and tools to motivate workers in retail settings.
  • Identify communication and negotiation techniques used in retail and store management context.
