Digital Transformation, Prototyping, Business Modelling and Venture Innovation
Module Description
This module will introduce you to processes of digital transformation, with particular attention to business prototyping, modelling and innovation. Prototyping is a powerful method for learning, thinking about and communicating your ideas.
This module also explores business modelling techniques for the digital age, scaling-up entrepreneurial ventures and driving growth. It also offers an introduction to coding and design.
In today’s world, successful entrepreneurship is mostly being run on digital platforms and through digital exposure.
It is therefore important for entrepreneurs who wish to achieve success to know more about digital skills and how additional tools can help enhance innovation, as well as help keep you abreast with technology skillsets.
The ultimate aim of this module is to illustrate how you can ensure that innovation and digitalisation are fully aligned with your strategic direction in entrepreneurship.
Entry Requirements
Candidates who apply for this course must possess one of the following:
- a Level 6 degree;
OR
- a Level 5 diploma or higher diploma and 5 years’ work experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
Preference is given to applicants having a Level 6 degree in a discipline related to the study programme and a minimum of 3 years’ work experience in management.

The target group focuses primarily on people already employed within supervisory and managerial roles who wish to have a more thorough background in the subject in order to progress further in their careers.

The programme aims to prepare you for senior posts such as that of General Manager, Head of Department or Director of any organisation, both in the private and public sector.
How you’ll be assessed
The course comprises:
- Evening classes for part-time courses.
- Classes held throughout the day for full-time courses.
- Guided learning, presentations, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos.
- Self-study hours comprising research, reading and assignment work.
Assessment
Assessment is carried out via two mandatory components:
- Modular Assessment
- Dissertation Assessment
The programme includes different forms of assessment which allow for and promote students’ critical engagement. The formative and summative assessment tasks may include an in-class assignment and/or a home-based written assignment using diverse assessment tools which may take the form of online and in-class discussions, examinations, case studies, reports, proposals, essays, and presentations, etc., as applicable to the diverse modules.

Competences:
At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:
- Evaluate the necessary characteristics and roles of the technology and people in entrepreneurship to propose digital-business innovation program(s)
- Critically compare and contrast different business models in entrepreneurship.
- Critically analyse the interaction between stakeholders in a digital environment and how an entrepreneur can scale-up through technology.
- Critically evaluate the importance of digital taxonomy in context of entrepreneurship. .
Knowledge:
At the end of the module/unit the learner will have been exposed to the following:
- Introduction to Prototyping and knowledge development
- Eliminating off assumptions, designing and validating business rules
- The beauty of digitization in everyday life
- Strategic insights in business design and service design
- Impact of digitization and innovation on business growth
- Benefits of technology, taxonomy, meta-data and data-driven business on online platforms
Skills:
At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:
- Assess the functions of prototyping and team building exercises.
- Critically evaluate the current digital platforms and the socio-technology process including the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the current traditional and digital businesses.
- Critically analyse internal and external positive and negative effects on entrepreneurship and propose a plan to solve potential issues.
- Critically evaluate the implication of cultural diversity on entrepreneurs.
- Critically review and apply digital taxonomies for positioning an organization at a better position on the digital platform.

- Navigate through the online learning platform to find assignments, discussion boards, literature, tutorials etc.
