Innovation, Strategy and Sustainability
Module Description
This module will develop your knowledge of innovation, strategy and sustainability.
You will delve into strategic planning, industry positioning and how to maximise resources. T
his module also explores the overall landscape, as well as the consequences and impacts of innovation on environmental sustainability.
You will also examine the strategic challenges within the ecosystem and assess how successful businesses have overcome them.
Additionally, the module highlights ways on dealing with the creation and evolution of new markets, including responses to radical innovation and innovation failure.
You will also benefit from understanding how competitive and corporate strategy form the bases of successful business management.
Entry Requirements
Candidates who apply for this course must possess one of the following:
- a Level 6 degree;
OR
- a Level 5 diploma or higher diploma and 5 years’ work experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
Preference is given to applicants having a Level 6 degree in a discipline related to the study programme and a minimum of 3 years’ work experience in management.

The target group focuses primarily on people already employed within supervisory and managerial roles who wish to have a more thorough background in the subject in order to progress further in their careers.
How you’ll be assessed
The course comprises:
- Evening classes for part-time courses.
- Classes held throughout the day for full-time courses.
- Guided learning, presentations, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos.
- Self-study hours comprising research, reading and assignment work.
Assessment
Assessment is carried out via two mandatory components:
- Modular Assessment
- Dissertation Assessment
The programme includes different forms of assessment which allow for and promote students’ critical engagement. The formative and summative assessment tasks may include an in-class assignment and/or a home-based written assignment using diverse assessment tools which may take the form of online and in-class discussions, examinations, case studies, reports, proposals, essays, and presentations, etc., as applicable to the diverse modules.

Competences:
At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:
- Critically analyse the relationship between strategy, innovation and sustainability how this knowledge is applied to entrepreneurship.
- Propose how data collection, artificial intelligence and machine learning can be used to enhance business.
- Evaluate the traditional and innovative design of strategic planning.
- Critically analyse the challenges associated with strategy and innovation and propose relevant solutions as applied for enterprise.
- Critically assess the impact on environmental sustainability and the role of climate change for firm competitiveness.
- Develop a strategic holistic proposal based on knowledge of global challenges, emerging technologies and governance.
- Critically analyse the importance and application of eco-systems in entrepreneurship.
Knowledge:
At the end of the module/unit the learner will have been exposed to the following:
- The relation between strategy, innovation and sustainability.
- Innovation through data, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
- The nature of innovation process.
- The globalization effect, emerging technologies, emerging economies and governance impact on entrepreneurship.
- Sustainable innovation embedded with environmental sustainability.
Skills:
At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:
- Evaluate the functions of innovation, strategy and sustainability.
- Critically analyse what constitutes technology innovation and modern technology and how the knowledge of it can be applied in business.
- Review the innovation process and propose relevant adjustments.
- Analyse the globalisation effects and that of emerging technologies and economies on entrepreneurs to recommend relevant modernisations.
- Critically evaluate the nature, determinants and consequences of sustainable innovation and environmental sustainability and propose how this can be used to run innovative entrepreneurial enterprise.
