Module Description

Organisations began to emerge as a distinct area of research and academic specialisation in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.

Since then, a somewhat unified body of knowledge and thinking has developed that falls under the general term of ‘organisational behaviour’.

The study of organisational behaviour developed from a convergence of streams in management thinking and writing.

Human beings have been concerned with effective ways of organising people and managing them since the dawn of civilisation, but most thinking and writing was done in a different context to that of management studies.

Today, organisational theory is concerned with how an organisation could be designed to operate more effectively to achieve objectives in a rational way.
