Quality and Verification Practices in Vocational Education
Module Description
This module aims at equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, competences, and attitudes required by verifiers to provide a supportive check to the lecturing staff with regards to assessment quality.
This includes verifying whether the assessment instruments (mode, brief, observation schedule, logbook/portfolio templates and rubrics) are fit for purpose; whether the assessment tasks are aligned with the module learning outcomes; and whether the feedback provided is supportive and accurate.
Entry Requirements
- Full Qualification at MQF Level 6 or equivalent.

How you’ll be assessed
The module comprises:
- Evening classes for part-time courses.
- Classes held throughout the day for full-time courses.
- Guided learning, presentations, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos.
- Self-study hours comprising research, reading and assignment work.
Assessment
Assessment is carried out via two mandatory components:
- Assessment 1
- Assessment 2
The mode of assessment varies and may include in-class practical assignments, and home-based assignments using diverse assessment tools which may include case studies, resource planning and development, experiential practice and presentations, as applicable to the diverse modules.

Competences:
At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:
- Refer to related policies and checklists to verify the assignment brief generated by the lecturer.
- Ensure that assessment instruments are subject, occupational standards, level, and load appropriate and, hence, fit for purpose.
- Ensure that the assessor provides adequate, consistent, and accurate feedback to the students.
Knowledge:
At the end of the module/unit, the learner will be able to:
- Refer to related policies and checklist to verify the assignment brief generated by the lecturer.
- Ensure that assessment instruments are subject, occupational standards, level, and load appropriate and, hence, fit for purpose.
- Ensure that the assessor provides adequate, consistent, and accurate feedback to the students.
Skills:
At the end of the module/unit, the learner will have acquired the following skills:
- Refer to related policies and checklist to verify assessment decisions.
- Ensure that assessment and grading are reliable and consistent throughout the course.
- Ensure that assessment instruments enable the students to generate evidence that meets the module learning outcomes.
- Judge whether the students’ work has been assessed correctly by the lecturer by mapping it against the assessment rubric.
- Record verification decisions effectively.

At the end of the module/unit the learner will be able to:
- Appraise whether the assessment tasks designed by the lecturer are aligned with the module specifications and the assessment criteria.

At the end of the module/unit, the learner will be able to:
- Navigate through the online learning platform to access assessment tasks and students’ work.
- Record verification decisions effectively.
