Strategic Management of the Retail Environment
Module Description
The aim of this module is to examine the role that senior management play in setting the course and direction of retail organisation. The module offers participants to develop critical thinking related to the strategic issues facing companies in the retail sector. Many times, such issues are complex and unpredictable, the solutions and decisions of which are often taken upon imperfect and incomplete information. This module provides and framework for managers to help navigate through the decision-making process. Students will also learn to analyse both the external and internal environments directly or indirectly effecting the retail organisation. Students will learn how the effect good governance, ethics and social responsibility concepts have on organisations in the retail sector.
Entry Requirements
Candidates who apply for this course must possess one of the following:
a Level 6 degree
OR
a Level 5 diploma or higher diploma and 5 years’ work experience in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably but not limited to the retail industry.

• professionals seeking a management career within the retail industry;
• those working in management positions within retail or retail-related industries, and who wish to refine and improve their competences and skills.
How you’ll be assessed
The method of assessment is assignment-based.
The module comprises:
• 6 lectures;
• 3-hour lectures;
• 12 hours of online content, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos.
